Medway Historical Ordnance (MHO) was formed in 2002 to take ownership of and preserve a unique collection of old cannons and artillery located at Fort Amherst Chatham. At the time the collection was in danger of being broken up and lost to the local community. The trust gained charitable status in April 2003 and took formal possession of the collection at that time.

Medway Historical Ordnance is a small organization consisting of four trustees, who ensure that the stated objectives of the trust are upheld. However MHO is well supported by volunteers and affiliated groups who carry out the work required to maintain the collection.
